Linderhof Palace
In the valley Grasvangtal, Bavaria, eight kilometers from the village of Oberammergau, Linderhof Castle stands fabulous. It was built by King Ludwig II, whom historians often called "fabulous king" for his craving for unusual building palaces for its beauty. The most outstanding is considered his brainchild castle Neuschwanstein. However, Linderhof was the only castle, which failed to complete during the life of Ludwig.
Architects and sculptors castle repeatedly went to France to study thoroughly the architecture of Versailles and pass it stylistic details in Linderhof. Interior Castle so exquisite that it is impossible to describe. The abundance of gilding, tapestries, mirrors and crystal on luxury surpasses many palaces in the world.
Each room of the castle is in a special style and differs not only paints, but also furniture. For example, the Gobelin Hall is in the Rococo style with playful tapestries on the walls, and in the decoration of Moorish pavilion can be seen oriental motifs.
Around Linderhof stretches a magnificent 50-hectare park with numerous sculptures, pools and fountains. By the way, here's all the same old linden tree grows, which gave its name to the castle. Translated from the German Linderhof means "linden yard."
In the park, there is another fabulous destination - Venus Grotto. Is a masterpiece of architectural excellence. Artificial cave created specifically for theatrical productions of Wagner's operas, who so loved the king.
Linderhof can get in on the bus from Fussen or Schwangau, get off at «Oberammergau», then take bus number 9633, which goes straight to the castle.
Linderhof is open daily from 9:00 to 18:00 in the summer and from 10:00 to 16:00 - in the winter. Also note that from October to March and the grotto of Venus park closed to the public. Excursion ticket costs 8 euros, it includes an overview of the castle and park buildings.
