Old Bridge in Heidelberg

Heidelberg connects the two banks of the Baroque stone bridge. It is a continuation of a cobbled lane, connecting Old Town and Mount Saints. The bridge offers a wonderful view of the river and the famous Heidelberg Castle .

The old bridge was built in 1788 by order of the Elector Karl Theodor, so it is often called the Charles Bridge. People loved his Elector and his honor erected a monument on the bridge. Bridge gate guarding the entrance on the north side. Two identical towers with Baroque domes in the old city well defended. And on the south side of the bridge, to the delight of tourists, a metallic figure of a monkey with a mirror, the loss of which can make a wish.

Length of Old Bridge 200 meters, width - about 7 meters, and it is available only to pedestrians. To get to it you must get out of the old city to the waterfront. Old Bridge with its twin towers is easy to learn, besides, it is considered the most beautiful in Heidelberg.
