Wartburg Castle
Near the town of Eisenach, in Thuringia, on top of the mountain stretches large medieval castle. Interestingly, that it involves a lot of German legends, one of which states that it was founded in the 11th century Ludwig Springer as its ancestral home. For centuries, the castle was inhabited by the rulers, graphs and knights. Wartburg also lived several years St. Elizabeth Thuringia. Noted in the history of the castle and Martin Luther. It was here that the great reformer translated into German New Testament. In the neighboring half-timbered buildings still preserved his modest work room with a desk and a footrest.
Architecture Wartburg unexpectedly combines Gothic, Renaissance and Romanesque. Internal rooms are decorated with mosaics and tapestries that depict famous of its inhabitants. Particularly impressive is the decoration and size of the room for the festivities. Today, the castle hosts a large number of festivals, concerts and other cultural events.
Tours of the castle are held every day from 8:30 to 17:00 (April-October) and from 9:00 to 15:30 (November-March). Tickets cost about 9 euros. Get someone from Eisenach buses number 10 and number 13. Also, you can climb to the top of the foot, but the slope is very steep and the road to Wartburg takes about half an hour.
