Schwetzingen Castle

In the small German town of Schwetzingen is a palatial complex that many call the "Rhenish Versailles." For many centuries Shvettsingensky palace was the official residence of the rulers of the Palatinate. The first castle on this site was built in 1350. Then he repeatedly rebuilt and expanded until the 19th century.

Each elector tried to bring to the interior and exterior of the palace something new. So, in his spacious park appeared Turkish mosque, swimming, temples, a theater and a museum. Among other Shvettsingensky Palace stands out for its unique buildings, which are called "tsirkel", they are located on both sides of the palace and create interesting architectural composition.

As for the interior decoration, it is fully consistent with the tastes of the 18th century. In the chambers and halls of the palace can be found throughout the medieval tapestries, paintings, furniture, gilt, stucco ceiling and so on.

Deserves special attention and extensive grounds, which is adjacent to the residence. Palace Park occupies several hectares and is divided into two parts of different styles. Traditional French park visitors happy gurgling fountains, quiet paths, flower beds and greenhouses. But the English garden is remarkable artificial ruins and arboretum.

Tourist Palace is available only with a guide. Please note that due to renovation, the halls of the palace are closed from 29 September 2014 until the spring of 2016. Beautiful park complex is open all year round, in the summer from 9:00 to 20:00 in the winter - from 9:00 to 17:00. Visit to the castle and the garden will cost about 9 euros.
