The Holsten Gate
At the western border of the old Holstein Lübeck are gates that protect a formidable medieval inhabitants from enemies. The city gates were built of red and black brick in the 15th century, and were part of the fortifications of the Free Hanseatic Luebeck. In 1864 part of the obsolete fortifications demolished, but decided to leave the gate.
Today powerful defensive towers a museum of history of the city. It exhibited models of vintage sailing ships, a great layout of the Luebeck, when the city was the capital of the Hanseatic League, and many other interesting exhibits. Medieval gates are protected by UNESCO as a monument to architectural style, which was called "brick gothic."
